A colourful vehicle with an enormous inscription on the bonnet—Battu’s Bioscope—rambles along the sun scorched Indian roads. Mr Battu is the owner of one of 2,000 mobile cinemas in India. The bioscope comprises an old Soviet projector and a few sheets of white cloth.

Andrzej Fidyk’s team accompanies them from Calcutta, via fishing villages, snake-hunters’ settlements and a leprosarium, to the distant Orissa province. Mr Battu has finally received a permit, after trying for years, to show films to those who do not even know that cinema exists. Mr Battu is going to be their first introduction to civilisation. Battu’s Bioscope shows on a double-bill with Waiting for Harvey.
