Anton Franch’s last stand was one of the most heroic moments in the struggle against apartheid. On 17 November 1989, armed with grenades and an AK47, he kept the security forces besieging his house at bay for seven hours before blowing himself up. A dramatic reconstruction of the events of that day and a moving portrait of the people of Bonteheuwel still struggling to come to terms with the loss of an idol and a friend: those left to rot in the twilight of post-liberation South Africa, and those determined to defend the gains of the revolution.
